Ruth Scott (Co-owner/Daycare Operations)

Picture
Ruth Scott is a 28-year resident of Los Alamos and is pictured here with her dog, Lady, a 100 pound fun loving great pyrenees mix adopted from The Los Alamos Animal Shelter and Tramp, a feisty blue heeler pup.  Ruth is an advocate of adopting shelter dogs, has an ongoing love story with dogs and takes all of her adoptions seriously; every dog she has adopted has remained in her care to the last day of their long and happy life. Her compassion fuels the desire to continue giving exceptional love and care to the animal family she is so fond of by opening this professionally operated facility and providing services her community is in need of.

Amanda Robertson (Co-owner/Head Trainer)

Picture
Amanda started her love for training in 2001 when she attended her first obedience class with her Doberman, Molly. During that class, she was asked to visit Endeavor Working Dog Club (EWDC), who trained in various working dog sports at Overlook Park. After attending her first formal seminar, she was hooked! Ever since then, she has been intrigued by the relationship between dog and handler and has been dedicated in helping others pursue their K9 goals.

Personal Training History
In 2002, she purchased her first working Dobermann, Bianca vom Haus Mann. She titled Bianca to Schutzhund* 3 in three years, which is impressively quick for the sport. In 2011, she acquired her first German shepherd, Qaysar von Willowind, and earned multiple Schutzhund 3 titles. Qaysar successfully crossed over to earn a first-leg of a MondioRing I title. During this time, Bianca produced one litter of Dobermann pups including Bindi von HeisserSchuss. With Amanda, Bindi earned her title IPO I, while scoring 98 in protection**, before retirement. Currently, Amanda is training her first Belgian Malinois, ‘Iso’tope du Loups du Soleil, who has earned his IPO 1, OB2, OB3, TR2, and TR3  in Schutzhund. Iso also competes in Nosework and has earned his Novice Interior and Vehicle search title.

Experience_
Amanda has 18 years of formal dog-training experience and has competed in Schutzhund (including tracking), MondioRing, and AKC rally and obedience. She has worked with many of the best dog trainers and competitors, including Michael Ellis of The Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers.  Amanda worked with Michael for over 15 years when he provided seminars for EWDC.
Tami McLeod, JJ Belcher, Todd Dunlap, Julia Priest, Ted Hartman, Phil Hoelcher, Greg Doud, Mia Skogster, Peter and Connie Scherk, and Les Flores are some other trainers and mentors Amanda is forever grateful for, having learned invaluable knowledge and techniques.

She believes in the philosophy of ‘never stop learning’ and is continually attending seminars and completing educational courses in dog training and behavior. She welcomes learning and training with all breeds across multiple disciplines.  You never know where a learning moment might come from!

She was the President and certified Training Director for Endeavor Working Dog Club from 2015 - 2018. She is currently the President and certified Training Director for Desert Mountain Schutzhund Club since 2018. Amanda belongs to the United Shutzhund Clubs of America and Deutscher Verband der Gebrauchshundsportvereine (DVG)#. She is a member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (# 85747) and a Certified Evaluator for the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test (Evaluator #92694). Amanda is also one of three evaluators in New Mexico for the C.L.A.S.S. (Canine Life and Social Skills) program.

# DVG roughly translates to the German Association of Working Dog Sport Clubs. DVG exists for one primary purpose- the training and titling of dogs of all kinds. In addition to IPO titles, DVG offers Obedience and Tracking titles, providing competition opportunities for all people who love to train dogs, even the smallest of breeds.
